Summer is finally here and after a big winter, we're all anxious to hit the hiking trails. It's that time of year when we all like to take in the mountain and valley views, fresh mountain air, budding trees and summer wildflowers. If you're headed to the north end of the valley, be sure to check out one of our favorite, the Whetstone Vista to Upper Loop. With expansive views of Whetstone Mountain and the southern valley, this is a perfect day hike or family outing. While the trail is relatively short at only 2.7 miles round trip, it would be considered a moderate hike with an elevation gain of 436 feet. A favorite summer destination for locals, the Gunnison River Whitewater Park is located just a mile or so from downtown Gunnison, Colorado, off of Highway 50 where it meets County Road 38. The Gunnison Valley is overflowing with activities, clubs and organizations for its adventure seekers. What the Gunnison Valley is lacking however is support groups. The Mental Health needs of those living in the Gunnison Valley need to be addressed. We’re excited to see that one young mother has decided to share her passion for helping others by starting a support group for mothers facing Postpartum Depression, Anxiety and OCD.
