Support Keeping the MTCBPD Policing The North End Of The Gunnison Valley

Please show your support for keeping the Mt. Crested Butte Police Department policing the north end of the Gunnison Valley by signing this petition.

After almost 40 years of working together under a collaborative agreement, the Gunnison Sheriff's Office is terminating the contract with the Mt. Crested Butte Police Department (MTCBPD). This should be of great concern to everyone living in Gunnison County. Not only will this be a huge cost to the taxpayers, it poses serious life safety concerns to the citizens living in the north end of the valley as well as the first responders who work and serve these communities. Delayed response times from Gunnison could have seriously negative results, some potentially life threatening. Currently the MTCBPD polices the north end of the Gunnison Valley, providing mutual aid to the Crested Butte Marshals, assisting with Fire calls and assisting local EMS providers on medical calls. A delayed response to these emergencies could put our communities and local first responders at risk. Please show your support by signing this petition asking the Gunnison Sheriff's Office to renew the contract with the MTCBPD. Renewal of the existing contract is a more responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and will better protect the safety of our communities and first responders, not just in the north end of the valley but throughout all of Gunnison County.
